Pip lived with her father for most of her life. She always despised his habit of smoking, especially the foul odor that clung to her as a result of his bad habits. Many people avoided her because of the cigarette stench- they thought she was the one smoking and didn't want to get involved with her.
She finally got fed up with her father's habit. Pip sneaked into his room in the middle of the night and pulled the lighter out of his drawer. She threw it in the pond near her house to ensure that he didn't get his hands on it again. Needless to say, it didn't work. Her father just got a new lighter and was incredibly angry at her.
Later that month, Pip's father fell asleep with his cigarette still lit. It fell out of his hand and smoldered and smoldered until the house went up in a blaze. Pip, who was asleep, inhaled too much smoke. She's been in a coma since, wedged awkwardly between living and dying. This is shown by her tail, which ties her to the living world. If any damage were to come to her tail, she would die for good.
